NOTE:
There are several formulas used for calculating body fat percentage. The provided equation uses the formula based on body mass index (BMI). Though this BMI-based equation will give an approximate result in most instances, it may slightly overestimate the body fat percentage of people with high BMIs who are considered overweight, such as those with considerable muscle mass, for instance. For a more accurate assessment of body composition at home, the use of a caliper for skinfold measurements is an affordable option, as is the use of a tape measure to take circumference measurements. If money and access don’t present a problem, then dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry (DEXA) and underwater weighing are even better alternatives.
