The Brick-By-Brick Goal Approach

The Brick-By-Brick Goal Approach written in text with image of a brick in fingers of a hand over a pile of bricks.

As said by John Heywood, Rome wasn’t built in a day.1Who the fucking bleep is John Heywood?!?!, you ask. Well, have you ever said or heard the expression, “Better late than never”? “Hit the nail on the head”? “A penny for your thoughts”? “Beggars can’t be choosers”? If you’ve said or heard any of those sayings, then you’re familiar with John Heywood because he’s the English playwright who came up with those and many more turns of phrases that are used in ordinary conversation. So that’s who the bleeping fuck John Heywood is!

It was built brick…2Take a guess what comes next.

…by brick…3Take another guess what comes next.

…by brick!!!

A brick was laid every hour for days, weeks, months, and years until the patricians, while on break from one of their famed orgies, looked up and saw there was a city and then gave the go-ahead for the slaves to stop building.

Yup, Rome didn’t just magically appear out of nowhere…unlike the Sphinx and pyramids in Egypt that are clearly the result of ancient aliens, of course.

So what’s the takeaway message here?

Ha, the bleeping message is that the approach you should take to your goals is exactly like the building of Rome!

Minus the slaves part but possibly including the orgy stuff if you want, how you should go about reaching your goals should be exactly like the building of Rome because the big accomplishment you want will be the byproduct of all the tiny, repetitive actions leading up to it.

In other words, that habit you’re looking to break or skill you want to master isn’t going to happen overnight. Thinking that your goal is going to be accomplished relatively soon after setting it is unrealistic, especially if changing an ingrained behavior or developing proficient use of an ability. Instead, because little things add up to big things over time, you have to put in the work toward your given goal on a consistent basis for however long is required before the desired outcome is reached. Also, most importantly, you have to do what’s called for by your particular goal regardless whether you like or enjoy the activities that are party to its success.

So want to slim down but hate weighing your food each and every meal to make sure you’re not portioning out enough food to feed a manned mission to Mars?

Ha, suck it up and do it!

Want to eat healthier but hate prepping all your snacks and meals for the week on Sunday because of the time it takes away from you praising the Lord as a preemptive measure to keep you from burning in hell for all the commandments you violate from Monday to Saturday?

Ha, suck it up and do it!

Want to get in better shape but hate going to bed at a reasonable hour so you can hit the gym before work instead of being too tired to get up from staying up late binge-watching Pornhub?

Ha, suck it up and do it!

Whatever has to be done to reach your goal, suck it up and do it over and over and over again!

LAY THOSE BRICKS, MOTHERFUCKER!!!

Glossary: goal, gym, Monday
