1). Enter the measurement of your waist in inches.1To measure your waist circumference, stand with your feet slightly apart and place a cloth tape measure around your waist at the narrowest point. If you were to look at yourself from the front, that would be about an inch above the belly button. Hold the tape so it’s neither too tight nor too loose against your skin. When the tape is snug, breathe in gently and on the exhale, read the measurement where the tape overlaps and then record the number. Take three measurements to ensure accuracy.
2). Enter the measurement of your hips in inches.2To measure your hip circumference, stand with your feet together and place a cloth measuring tape around the widest part of your hips. If you were to look at yourself from the side, that would be at the point where the buttocks protrude most. Hold the tape so it’s neither too tight nor too loose against your skin. When the tape is snug, read the measurement where the tape overlaps and then record the number. Take at least two measurements for accuracy.
3). Click the “Calculate” button to find your waist-to-hip ratio then compare it to the reference chart of waist-to-hip ratios to assess the risk of premature death and developing certain diseases and conditions associated with the distribution of body fat.
