BODY MASS INDEX CALCULATOR

INSTRUCTIONS

1). Enter your body weight in pounds.
2). Enter your height in inches.
3). Click the “Calculate” button to find your body mass index (BMI) then compare it to the reference chart of body mass index ranges to assess the risk of developing certain diseases and conditions associated with the presence of increased body fat.

NOTE:
BMI doesn’t take into account age, gender, or muscle mass. It’s only calculated from an individual’s height and body weight, which includes bones, organs, waste, fluids, body fat, and lean tissue. As a result, some individuals, such as athletes and bodybuilders, may have a high BMI and be classified as overweight or obese and at risk when they’re not. In others, BMI may suggest a normal weight with low health risk when that’s not necessarily the case because there’s a loss of muscle, for example. That said, while the measurement is flawed, it provides a reference point and is of utility as long as it’s remembered that BMI a screening, not a diagnostic, tool and should thus be used in conjunction with other assessments.
