Yup, you should make a grocery list and shop with it because research has found that people who use grocery lists purchase more nutritious food and are more successful with weight management than those who don’t. The exact reason why isn’t known but it’s speculated that self-control diminishes as you make more and more decisions when faced with an assortment of options. That’s the case when grocery shopping without a list but doesn’t appear to be so when shopping with one because the predetermination of what to buy helps improve self-regulatory behavior by limiting the number of decisions that have to be made, which prevents the impulse buying of more calorific foods.
