Some people need a constant reminder of their goals. For others, being constantly reminded of what they’re trying to do hinders more than it helps. If you’re in the latter group, then what I’m about to share doesn’t apply, so you should kindly see your way out now.

Are those losers gone?

Good!

Now, let’s say that you have some office job behind a desk all day. Now, unless your company doesn’t give a fuck about security, you probably have to punch in your computer password several times a day.1Considering that your employer hired you without checking your completely made-up resume or looking into your questionable background, one can safely surmise their security measures may not be as up to snuff as they should be. So how was I to know that you definitely have a passcode?! Ummmmm, BECAUSE I’M OMNISCIENT!!! Like, seriously, how many fucking times do I have to tell you people?!?!

Rather than having some generic password for your workstation, you can make it something related to your goal, such as your goal weight and/or target date. So if it’s late April and you’re trying to lose 20 lbs by May 20th so you can be in time for bikini season because you’re under the common delusion that it’s safe, healthy, and easy to lose that much weight in such little time, then your password could be something like 20byMay20.

Oh, but you work some menial labor job so the outlined scenario doesn’t fit your situation?2I know you flip burgers as a profession (remember, I’M OMNISCIENT!!!), but I didn’t want to come across any more demeaning than I already am so I came up with that bullshit about you having some cushy office job.

No biggie!

Just do the same with your phone password, or email account, or bank website, or whatever other digital space you access multiple times on a daily occasion.3By golly, look at that. The totally unsolvable problem was easily solved!4NOTE: Turn the feature on that requires the use of a passcode to unlock your device every time you want to use it and turn the feature off that allows you to remain logged into websites, programs, and apps until you manually sign out.

This simple trick of changing the password of something you frequently access to a word or phrase that reminds you of your current goal is an easy way to regularly affirm it and keep it top of mind so it’s a priority and not something you can conveniently forget about, thus increasing the chances of you seeing it through.

So yeah, give it a try but be sure to remember to incorporate good password etiquette, such as using 10 or more characters and a mixture of uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols. Also, only use that goal-centered password for one site, account, device, or whatever so a hacker doesn’t have access to more than they should in the event of a data breach!

Glossary: goal, priority
