Weight Loss Tip: no.1512
Limit or avoid sugary drinks.
Care to guess why?
Yup, you should limit or avoid sugar-sweetened beverages because they’re often high in calories, which can add up quickly when multiple drinks are consumed daily. There’s also the fact that the body doesn’t register fullness from liquid calories the same way it does calories from solid food. As a result, you’re not likely to offset the calories from a sugary drink by automatically eating less food. Further, sugar-sweetened beverages cause blood sugar levels to rise and fall rapidly, which can cause hunger and cravings that compel you to eat more.
Regular soda, fruit juice, sports and energy drinks, flavored mineral water, chocolate milk, and specialty coffee drinks are a few examples of sugar-sweetened beverages. For all of the reasons above, sugary drinks like the ones listed can make it hard to manage your weight. That’s why you should limit or replace them with zero or low-calorie beverages like water, diet soda, freshly squeezed juice, black coffee, and unsweetened tea.
