5 Benefits Of Working Out With A Partner
I know you’d rather work out alone because you’re too antisocial — or at least that’s what you comfort yourself with because you’re a loser who no one wants to be around — but you should really consider getting a training partner.
Like, do a hated activity with another human being, one you more than likely hate?!
Whaaaa…whaaaa…why would you do that to yourself?!
I think the better question is why would someone want to do that to themselves and be around yoooooooouuuuuuuuuuu?!?!
But okay…let’s count the benefits of working out with a partner!
ONE
If you’re scheduled to work out with your partner on a certain day and time, the chances of you blowing off your workout drop because you’ll be fucking up somebody else’s plans, not just your own…
…unless you’re that much of a dick, which I’m not putting past you!
TWO
With a training partner, you’ll have someone to help load and rerack the weight instead of having to expend sooooooooooooooo much of your energy putting on and taking off those heavy ass 10 lbs plates you’re killing it with on the bench press.
THREE
Your parents told you not to talk to strangers, right?
Well, with a training partner you can stay obedient to your parent’s commands, as you don’t have to approach random people in search of a spot. Nope, not when your training partner doubles as your spotter!
FOUR
Working out with someone stronger or in better shape than you can push you to work harder. But why the fuck would someone who’s stronger or already looks good want to pair up with someone inferior?!
Ummmmmmm, they’d want to work out with someone even weaker or in worse shape than them for the ego boost, as working out with someone like you would make them look even better in comparison.
FIVE
Working out with more than one training partner equals longer rest breaks. That is, unless your partners are serious about this working out shit and decide to negate the waiting between sets by doing separate exercises back-to-back.
Those benefits of working out with a partner sure does make working out with somebody sound mighty appealing, huh? So appealing that I bet you’re ready to ask a friend, family member, coworker, or total weirdo via a Craigslist ad to be your partner.
Before you run off and do that, let’s briefly consider some of the drawbacks…
ONE
Whoever you partner up with has to have the same schedule as you and be dependable.1If they’re anything like you, they’re probably not.
TWO
You might end up having shorter rest breaks if your partner performs less reps than they’re supposed to do because they, for some reason, have trouble counting as high as 12 or whatever the upper limit of the rep range is.
THREE
Ummmmmmm…you have to put up with somebody, which is probably the biggest reason not to buddy up.
