Dip Belt
Commonly referred to as a dip belt but also for use for pull-ups and chin-ups, the dip belt can be made of either leather or synthetic material like its cousin, the weightlifting belt.
But other than wrapping around the back, the similarities between a dip belt and weightlifting belt ends there, folks!
Unlike a weightlifting belt, the dip belt doesn’t secure around the entire waist snugly but instead has a lot of slack to it when set up properly.
Why?, you ask.
WHY?!?!
Ummmmmm…a dip belt has a good amount of give because of what the doohickey is built for, which is to allow you to add resistance to overload the chest, triceps, or back muscles when exercise movements like dips and pull-ups can be done effortlessly with body weight. For this purpose, one end of the belt has a length of chromed chain that you loop through weight plates and attach to a D-ring on the other end with a clip so when you stand up, the weight dangles between your legs at your center of gravity.1If you’re a woman and ever wondered what it’s like to walk around as a man with balls between your legs, strap on a dip belt with 3 45 lbs plates. That’ll give you an idea. Well, it’ll at least give you an idea of how I have to live my life because my balls are so big because I’m that fucking macho. I can’t speak for the rest of these beta cucks!
It’s a matter of personal preference what material you want your dip belt made of, so there’s no advice to be offered on that front. The only tips I can give for your purchase is to make sure that the chain is a heavy-duty one that won’t snap and send the loaded weight crashing down on your little piggies.2…or somebody else’s little piggies if you’re worried about other people’s safety. Also be on the lookout for a dip belt with a spring-loaded clip instead of a screw-on carabiner clip. Trust me, screw-on clips make changing weights a much more tedious affair than they should be.
Lastly, as was stated, the dip belt is ideal for people who can complete chin-ups and other bodyweight exercises for a fair amount of repetitions with good form. Because that won’t be the case for most people just starting out, the dip belt isn’t an item that needs to be bought immediately. However, the dip belt can be used for hip belt squats with free weights, a cable pulley, T-bar row machine, or landmine attachment if your gym doesn’t have a hip belt squat machine. So that’s a consideration.
