Does McDonald’s Make You Fat?
A lot of people try to blame fast-food restaurants for their weight gain.
Are you one of those people?
If you happen to be, your finger shouldn’t be pointed at McDonald’s or elsewhere.
Instead, it should be pointed squarely at you!
See, while most of the items at fast-food joints are high in calories and loaded with carbs, sugar, sodium, and saturated fat, eating those foods alone isn’t what makes people fat. What does make people fat is eating those menu items and taking no compensatory measures, such as exercising or reducing their food intake at other meals to cut down total calorie consumption for the day. It’s this routine failure to eat less total calories and/or burn calories via increased physical activity that keeps the body in a positive energy balance, which results in weight gain over time and is independent of any particular food.
Independent of any particular food?
YES, INDEPENDENT OF ANY PARTICULAR FOOD!!!
What that means is that the process of weight gain isn’t limited to so-called “bad” shit like fast food but also applies to “good” food as well!
As an example, let’s say you were to eat nothing but peas and carrots every day. Further, let’s say that you eat those peas and carrots daily to the point that the calories exceed the amount of calories that your body needs and you don’t burn the excess calories off via exercise or regular body movement. In that hard to believe scenario of you actually eating a fucking vegetable that isn’t part of a fast-food order as a garnish, topping, or side dish, you’ll eventually gain weight even though you’re eating nothing but nutritious foods.
So yeah, McDonald’s, Pizza Hut, Shake Shack, and whatever else isn’t why you’re fat. What’s really responsible is you by way of your eating and exercise habits, as weight gain ultimately comes down to those things as opposed to food itself, which scapegoaters would like to be the case.
