The gym isn’t a gosh darn social club and smack dab in the middle of your workout isn’t the best time to have someone you don’t really give two shits about knowing try to talk your ear off about something you don’t really give two fucks about.

So to take your anti-social behavior up a notch and thwart people from talking to you and you from talking to them, plug a pair of bullshit blockers — commonly referred to as “headphones” — into your ears and zone out to some bluegrass or whatever it is that gets you amped to do epic shit. That way, you won’t break your intensity.1You can flaunt your wealth and work out in those big, doofy air controller headphones but what’s the point of investing so much money in something that’s eventually going to get destroyed? For instance, headphone cushions are easily degraded by sweat. Sure, you could buy moisture-free covers but that’s another expense. On top of that, it’s really easy to break that type of headphones by stepping on them, picking them up the wrong way, or dropping them. The matter of dropping them while working out and breaking them that way is very much a possibility because on-ear headphones tend to move more easily than in-ear headphones because of their weight. This movement is another knock against them because of their need for constant readjustment. Instead, you’re better off with a cheap pair of earbuds that are more comfortable and easily replaceable if something happens to them.
