Ramen can be made into a meal that supports weight loss.

Care to guess how?

Yup, with just a few tweaks mentioned below, instant ramen can be more conducive to helping you lose weight than it ordinarily is for a number of reasons. One is that it’s high in calories. And if you use the flavor packet, the calorie count can skyrocket even further, as well as add loads of sodium to the meal. Ramen is also high in fat, most of which is the saturated kind that’s likely to be deposited in the midsection as belly fat instead of getting burned as energy. Additionally, saturated fat alters the way the brain responds to appetite-regulating hormones, which can lead to overeating. Another aspect of ramen that can similarly contribute to an increased appetite is the enriched white flour that’s commonly used to make the noodles. A simple carb such as that can cause quick spikes and dips in blood sugar levels that trigger cravings, of which you may be susceptible to because ramen also lacks fiber and protein, two nutrients that promote satiety.

For the reasons above, ramen is a bad meal for weight loss. However, it can be enjoyed on a diet by looking for brands that use whole wheat to make the noodles. What else to look for are varieties of noodles that aren’t deep-fried. When making ramen, add vegetables for fiber and tofu, eggs, shrimp, chicken, and other lean protein sources to help provide a filling effect. And lastly, don’t use the flavor packets that come included. Instead, flavor your ramen with salt-free seasonings and herbs, as well as other options like low-sodium soy sauce and low-sodium broth.
