Weight Loss Tip: no.167
Stop smoking cigarettes.
Care to guess why?
Yup, you should stop smoking if you want to lose belly fat because studies show that cigarettes increase visceral fat that’s stored in the abdomen. Another reason to stop smoking is that quitting can help improve your lung capacity and circulation, which in turn makes physical activity easier so you can engage in it more often and for longer periods and burn a greater amount of calories.
NOTE: It’s not uncommon to gain weight upon quitting smoking. That’s mostly because nicotine is no longer suppressing the appetite as much, which can lead to increased feelings of hunger that can contribute to overeating. Also, because nicotine causes the body to burn calories faster, that’s another way that stopping the use of tobacco can result in weight gain. Putting on pounds after giving up cigarettes is a real possibility but it’s not something to be concerned with if you’re already taking steps to manage your weight.
